Simply Read Books is a brilliant, Vancouver-based independent publishing house, so I took the creepy extra mile and looked them up on Google Maps- they are only 22 bus stops away from where I live! Perhaps we could interview them some day. (Unless they notice my creeping. In which case, I might not be invited.) For now, I get to rave about them to you. So, let’s begin.
Simply Read is the kind of publishing house that is small yet resilient and influential because of two reasons. One, it is very particular about the kinds of writers and artists it chooses to work with. Two, it has also worked up a line of popular as well as award-winning books because of its clear vision of the kinds of books it want to send out into the world i.e. “contemporary books with a modern appeal and fresh outlook, and offer a careful selection of timeless stories that link the past with the present”. But it’s not the just the books that are award-winning:
Simply Read Books’ commitment to excellence has succeeded in awards from the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA), IPPY, the Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA), the Alcuin Society, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), ForeWord Magazine, the Canada Council for the Arts, the Canadian Children’s Book Centre, the Ontario Arts Foundation, the BC Book Prizes, and the Canadian Toy Testing Council.
