All The Comics!

So, romance month has finally* given way to March and the allure of comics! Now, I am not quite sure why I have been asked to make this month’s introductory post. Well, actually, on hindsight, I may have gotten Janet addicted to a web comic or two, but really, that’s all I did! Okay, and I did the unnecessarily long review for Fairy Tale Comics. And okay, I love trying to make novel-consumers try out graphic novels. BUT! Those are my only offences. I think.

It’s just that as children’s literature enthusiasts and academics- we don’t actually consider how diverse, how deep, how entertaining, and how beautiful comics can be. Well, we do, but not as much as we ought to, I think. This month we shall be exploring all kinds of comicy-y things …

including graphic novels …

manga (and maybe manhwa) …

web-comics …

… and some mixed media books that involve comics in some way. (In truth, there may be only one of those. I intend to write about Kate DiCamillo’s Flora and Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures.) We’re going to draw the line at picturebooks, though. We feel like those deserve their own month. Look forward to it!

As always, we hope to broaden our reading preferences, explore a variety of topics, as well as entertain you lot and each other as the month progresses.

We look forward to your comments! Happy March everyone!

*A special thank you to Nafiza who has covered for at least two of us this month without complaint! I look forward to returning the favour and maybe also treating you to some tea! Cheers, Nafiza!
