A Butterfly is Patient is an absolute treasure of a book aimed at kids who are super interested in the natural world in general and butterflies in particular. For an informational book, it parcels the facts in an easy to read manner, separated by sub-headings such as “A butterfly is poisonous” before unwrapping that statement and explaining it in a fun way. The accompanying illustrations are full of colour and vibrant and will encourage children to return to the book again and again. I like that the book is careful not to overwhelm with the amount of text on each page. The language used is clear and concise and more difficult terms are explained.

The book is aimed at kids between 5 to 10 years old but I dare say that parents with younger kids interested in butterflies could read this book to them and engage in long and lively discussions about nature, butterflies and even change using caterpillar to butterfly metamorphosis as an analogy.
