Top Ten Tuesday: Books on My Spring TBR

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.

  1. The Pearl Thief by Elizabeth Wein will be released May 2 – a prequel of sorts to Code Name Verity. *clutches imaginary pearl necklace* more of Julie! and her family! How will I wait?
  2. Thick as Thieves by Megan Whalen Turner will be released May 16. I’m telling you, May 2017 is a good month for books. The long-awaited fifth Queen’s Thief book. Will we find out where Costis was during A Conspiracy of Kings? What will happen with Kamut? What will Our Queen(s) and Our King(s) dare next? *deep breath* May is entirely too far away.
  3. In keeping with the theme of thieves, perhaps I should reread Elizabeth Bunce’s Star Crossed and assay into Liar’s Moon? Nafiza has warned me that there is no third book to this planned trilogy *shakes fist at publishers* but it’s been awfully hard to resist reading, even with that knowledge.
  4. The Perilous Life of Jade Yeo by Zen Cho. For obvious reasons (i.e. ZEN CHO) this is a must-read. If you haven’t read anything by Zen Cho yet, start with Sorcerer to the Crown – and then it will be too late, you will adore her prose, devour her other works, and join the throngs waiting eagerly for a release date (even a tentative one will do!) to the first of two sequels to Sorcerer to the Crown.
  5. March (Books 1, 2, and 3) by John Lewis, Andrew Aydin, and Nate Powell. I’m not sure why I haven’t read this yet, other than that the holds list on the library copies is enormously long.
  6. Code Talker by Joseph Bruchac. Waiting on the library for this one, too – expect a post in future months. History! Language! Indigenous stories! Codes and secrets! I’ve heard some very good things about this YA story.

Honestly, my reading this year is so atrocious and will continue to be until I finish the 0.5 draft of the book I am currently writing. There are so many books I want to read but am not able to because my brain won’t take in other people’s stories while it’s grappling with its own. Here are the books I most want to read:

  1. Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor
Her prose is absolutely beautiful and I have an ARC.
  2. A Crown of Wishes by Roshani Chokshi
Another ARC languishing on my TBR pile. I will read this. Soon.
  3. Thick as Thieves – Megan Whalen Turner
    Everything Janet said.
  4. When Dimple Met Rishi – Sandhya Menon
Goodness, my expectations for this are out of the world.
  5. The Inexplicable Logic of My Life – Benjamin Alire Saenz
I don’t think I ever have to explain this one.
  6. Bone Witch – Rin Chupeco
This just sounds all sorts of lovely.
  7. Dear Ijeawele or a Feminist Manifesto in Fifteen Suggestions – Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
    It’s Adichie.
