This book is really quite darling. The accompanying prose is spare but the illustrations more than make up for it. There is something so endearing about the time the little girl spends with her father who is drawn as a giant because, according to the author, ‘that’s how the little girl views him.’ And that’s true, isn’t it? To little children, their parents may as well be mountains.
Father’s Day is over but there is no reason this book cannot be shared by a dad and his little one.
Pet Dad by Elanna Allen

Plum really wants a pet but her dad keeps saying no so Plum comes with a solution: her dad is going to be a pet! Unfortunately, her dad is not much of a pet. He won’t fetch, roll over, or sit when he’s told. Plum and her pet dad’s relationship becomes increasingly fractured, punctuated as it is by his frequent “no.” Thankfully, Plum discovers the power of hugs at the most opportune moment.
The book is funny and cute. Kids will probably giggle helplessly at the idea of having a grown up for a pet and maybe some may get some ideas. The art is fresh and springy with a lot of movement in it that will appeal to a lot of kids. Recommended.
