Are you tired of preachy, syrupy picture books always trying to teach you and your children “important lessons”? Do you enjoy stories that are a bit odd, a bit surreal, a bit dark, perhaps along the lines of “I Want my Hat Back” or “A Hungry Lion, or A Dwindling Assortment of Animals”? Well, my friends, this strange little picture book, which is as adorable as it is creepy, might be just the thing for you!
Our story kicks off with a cute little critter lamenting the fate of its one and only friend…who it has just eaten. The critter sets off on a journey to find a new friend, finally finding an equally cute little monster who is very happy to be its friend. But fate in this world is of a cyclical nature, and it seems that this new friend might have a bit of an appetite…
There are no lessons here, no morals, no teachable moments. The story is silly and creepy and might just involve a bit of monster cannibalism. And you know what? I’m OK with that. Not every book has to be educational – sometimes a story can just be weird. Especially if it’s also as cute as this.
